Wuhan Junshan Yangtze River Bridge, Cable-stayed road bridge in Caidian and Jiangxia Districts, Wuhan, China
The Wuhan Junshan Yangtze River Bridge is a cable-stayed structure spanning approximately 4,900 meters across the Yangtze, connecting traffic between two districts. Double rows of slanting cables support the roadway and allow large vessels to navigate beneath the main section.
Construction began in 1998 and finished in late 2001, marking a turning point for infrastructure crossing the Yangtze. The project shortened travel times significantly and opened new connections for regional traffic.
The bridge name originates from Junshan, meaning Army Mountain, located on the left bank of the Yangtze River upstream from the crossing point.
The bridge carries several major highways, including the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macau and Shanghai-Chongqing expressways. Drivers should expect heavy traffic during rush hours and may notice vessel movement below during daytime hours.
The two bridge towers rise about 90 meters above water level and support a main span of 460 meters. This height allows ships to pass safely beneath even when water levels are high.
