Tung Lung Fort

Tung Lung Fort is a rectangular fortification located on Tung Lung Island in Sai Kung District, situated on elevated terrain above the waterline. The structure features substantial defensive walls and occupies a commanding position overlooking a major shipping channel.

The fort was constructed in the early 1700s and served as a defense structure against pirates operating in the region for several decades. It was eventually abandoned but remains preserved today as evidence of Hong Kong's maritime past.

The fort complex contained 15 guardhouses and maintained a garrison of 25 soldiers from the Tai-pang-hsi navy to protect maritime trade routes.

To reach the fort, visitors must take a boat since the structure sits on an island accessible only by water from nearby piers. Plan your visit during favorable weather, as conditions may affect boat availability and landing safety.

The fort is surrounded by high cliffs that provided natural defensive barriers and continue to create a striking landscape feature. This geographic setting made the location exceptionally well-suited for monitoring vessel traffic through the surrounding waters.
