琉璃河大桥, Stone arch bridge in Fangshan District, China.
Liulihe Bridge is a stone arch structure with eleven consecutive arches spanning across the river below. The structure extends about 167 meters in length and 11 meters in width, carrying both vehicle traffic and foot traffic.
This structure was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and served as a crucial link connecting different regions. Its survival over centuries shows how solid the stonework of that era was.
The name comes from the river below, showing how structures reflect their surroundings. Today both pedestrians and vehicles cross it, and its presence signals continuity with the past.
The bridge is accessible via the Beijing-Baoding Highway and receives regular maintenance to keep it in use. Both pedestrians and vehicles can cross, with good conditions for either option.
During World War II this structure suffered serious damage, including destroyed railings and stone tablets that held original construction records. These scars are part of what it has endured.
