North Sulawesi, Province of Indonesia in northeastern Sulawesi

North Sulawesi spans across mountainous terrains with elevations reaching 2,022 meters, featuring narrow coastal lowlands and dense rainforests of oak and chestnut trees.

The region transformed from a Dutch colonial territory with a fort established in Manado in 1658 to an official Indonesian province on August 14, 1959.

The Minahasan people form the largest ethnic group in North Sulawesi, alongside significant populations of Sangirese and Mongondow communities speaking distinct local languages.

Transportation networks include major roads connecting coastal cities like Bitung and Kotamobagu, with an international airport located in the provincial capital Manado.

The province contains Miangas Island, the northernmost point of Indonesia, positioned between the Celebes Sea and the Maluku Sea near the Philippine border.
