Lankaran District

The district stretches across coastal zones, mountainous regions, and fertile plains, bordered by Astara, Lerik, Masally, and Neftchala districts along the Caspian Sea.

Following the 1813 Gulistan Treaty, Lankaran transitioned from being the center of the Talysh Khanate to becoming part of the Russian Empire under the Treaty of Turkmenchay.

The Lankaran History and Ethnography Museum displays over 6,500 artifacts illustrating regional traditions through archaeological findings, traditional crafts, and historical documents.

The region maintains 51 kindergartens, 81 educational institutions, a state university, and specialized schools focusing on music and arts education.

The district contains Hirkan National Park, where the Parrotia persica tree species grows, historically valued for its long-burning properties as firewood.
