Khojavend District, Administrative district in western Azerbaijan
The district extends across 1,460 square kilometers of terrain, ranging from foothill plains to elevated areas reaching 2,725 meters above sea level.
Following the dissolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh region in 1991, Khojavend District emerged from the combination of Martuni and Hadrut territories on November 26.
The name derives from Turkish word 'khoja' meaning teacher and Persian word 'vand' meaning descendant, reflecting the linguistic influences in the region.
The district encompasses one city, two major towns including Hadrut and Girmizi Bazar, and 81 villages, situated 334 kilometers from the capital Baku.
The region contains natural resources such as Edish gabbro for stone production, substantial limestone deposits, and underground freshwater reserves.
