Liupan Shan, Mountain range in Ningxia Hui Region, China.
Liupan Shan is a mountain range that extends southward from Ningxia through eastern Gansu into western Shaanxi province. The range reaches its highest point at Migangshan peak, which stands at 2,942 meters.
In 1935, the Chinese Red Army passed through this range during their Long March and reached the Shaanbei region. This crossing marked a turning point in the revolutionary history of the nation.
The mountains serve as a natural divide between farming communities to the south and herding regions to the north. This boundary has shaped different ways of life for communities on either side for centuries.
The area is most easily reached via well-developed roads that pass through the lower elevations. Summer and early autumn offer the most pleasant conditions for visiting, with milder weather and better accessibility.
Dense pine forests grow at higher elevations, creating an unexpected green contrast within the arid Loess Plateau. This lush vegetation stands in sharp contrast to the bare and dusty terrain surrounding it.
