Nanjing Baguazhou Yangtze River Bridge

Nanjing Baguazhou Yangtze River Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Nanjing, China

The Nanjing Baguazhou Yangtze River Bridge is a cable-stayed structure crossing the Yangtze for approximately 628 meters, combining steel towers with supporting cables and a steel box girder deck. The design includes two main pylons from which cables fan out to support the roadway, creating a clear span across the water.

Construction started in October 1997 and the bridge opened to traffic in March 2001, representing a major infrastructure project for the region. The completion marked a milestone in Chinese engineering achievement for spanning large rivers.

The bridge links Qixia District with Bagua Island, serving as a daily passage for thousands of people crossing the river. It has become a recognizable landmark that marks an important connection in the region's transportation network.

The bridge carries substantial daily traffic as part of major expressway and highway systems, so expect congestion during peak hours. The best viewpoints for photographs are from nearby riverbanks or designated overlooks along the approach roads.

At the time of completion, this ranked among the world's longest cable-stayed spans, standing approximately 195 meters tall. This engineering accomplishment made it a notable example of modern Chinese infrastructure capability.
