Tiu Keng Leng, Residential district in Sai Kung, Hong Kong, China.
Tiu Keng Leng is a residential district on Hong Kong's eastern side, defined by modern apartment towers and community facilities. The settlement spreads along Tseung Kwan O Bay and includes housing blocks, schools, and neighborhood shopping areas.
The area was established in 1950 as a refuge for Kuomintang supporters fleeing mainland China after the People's Republic was formed. Over time it transformed from a settlement of displaced people into a permanent residential community.
The name comes from Tanka fishing families who lived along the coast and named the bay after its mirror-like waters. Today it functions as a modern residential zone, yet the connection to these early maritime communities remains part of the district's identity.
The area is best reached by the MTR station, which has connected the district since 2002 to inner urban areas. Visitors can find shopping centers and local services that make getting around easier.
The original name Chiu Keng Leng referred to the calm water surface of the adjacent bay, as local fishers called it. This shows how observation of nature played a role in how people named this place.
