Geleshan Revolutionary Martyrs’ Cemetery, Military cemetery in Shapingba District, Chongqing, China.
Geleshan Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is a memorial site at the foot of Geleshan Mountain featuring monuments, tablets, and landscaped gardens honoring Chinese revolutionary martyrs. The grounds include sections with remains of former concentration camps, as well as museums displaying artifacts and documents from that period.
From 1945 to 1949, the site housed two concentration camps called Zhazidong and Baigongguan where over 300 prisoners were executed before the People's Liberation Army arrived. After the conflict ended, the location was transformed into a cemetery and memorial complex to honor the victims.
The cemetery serves as a gathering place where families come on national holidays to pay respects to those who lost their lives for the nation. Visitors can see names inscribed on memorial tablets and feel the sense of respect that fills the grounds.
The site is open daily with extended hours on weekends. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the path through the grounds is hilly and requires walking to explore different areas fully.
The grounds contain remains of two historic prison buildings that now function as museums, guiding visitors directly through the cells where inmates were held. These physical spaces create a more personal connection to history than monuments alone.
