Nandu River Iron Bridge, Steel truss bridge in Hainan Province, China
Nandu River Iron Bridge is a steel truss structure that crosses the Nandu River, measuring roughly 785 meters long and 7 meters wide. The structure displays three remaining truss sections, though it shows significant rust and corrosion from years of exposure.
The bridge was built in 1942 by the Shimizu Group under Imperial Japanese Army supervision during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Steel components were brought from Taiwan to complete the structure.
The bridge draws photographers and couples who come here for wedding photos. The site holds meaning for people who visit to connect with its past and local heritage.
The bridge has been partially collapsed since severe flooding in October 2000 and remains closed to the public for safety reasons. Visitors should be aware of hazards and view it only from safe distances outside the structure.
A cylindrical concrete guardhouse stands at one end of the bridge, often overlooked by visitors. This building was constructed alongside the main structure and shows evidence of the bridge's original security function.
