German architecture firm KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten completed this addition to the National Library of China, which opened on September 9, 2008.
The facility maintains collections in 123 languages and provides spaces for exhibitions, workshops, and lectures that promote intellectual exchange.
Located near public transportation routes, the library maintains regular hours from Tuesday through Sunday and requires advance reservations for access.
The building incorporates specialized preservation systems to protect rare manuscripts while allowing public access to over 41 million items.
