The Qutb complex contains multiple structures including a 72.5-meter minaret, mosques, tombs, and gateways built during the Delhi Sultanate period.
The construction began in 1192 after Turks defeated the Tomar Rajputs, transforming the existing Hindu-Jain temples into the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque under Qutb-ud-din Aibak.
The architectural elements merge Indian and Central Asian design principles, with intricate carvings, geometric patterns, and Arabic calligraphy throughout the structures.
Visitors cannot climb the minaret due to safety regulations implemented after incidents, but can explore the mosque, tombs, and archaeological remains.
The Iron Pillar, dating from the 4th century, demonstrates advanced metallurgy through its rust-resistant composition that remains intact after 1600 years.
