UWC Mahindra College, independent, boarding school in Pune, Maharashtra, India
UWC Mahindra College is an international boarding school and college set in the Mulshi hills of Maharashtra, near Pune. The campus occupies a forested hillside outside the city and offers the International Baccalaureate program to students from grade 9 onward.
The college opened in 1997 as part of the United World Colleges movement, a global network of schools that brings together young people from different countries. Pune was chosen as the location to give students direct contact with Indian social and cultural life.
The name comes from the Mahindra family, one of India's best-known industrial groups, which has supported the school from the start. On campus, students from dozens of countries share daily life, meals, and classes, which gives the place a genuinely international character that is easy to notice as a visitor.
The campus is set in the Mulshi hills, roughly 30 km from Pune's city center, and is best reached by private vehicle or pre-arranged transport. Since this is a private boarding facility, contact the college in advance to arrange a visit before making the trip.
UWC Mahindra College is one of only three United World Colleges in South Asia, and it gathers students from around 90 countries on a single campus. That concentration of nationalities in a single place is rare even by global standards.
