Raigad district

Raigad district encompasses coastal regions, hills, and valleys in Maharashtra, stretching from the Arabian Sea to the Western Ghats mountain range.

The district, formerly known as Colaba, received its current name in 1981 from the Raigad Fort, which served as the capital of the Maratha Empire.

The district population speaks predominantly Marathi, with local markets offering traditional handicrafts, fresh produce, and seafood specialties from the coastal region.

The district headquarters in Alibag connects to major cities through the Sion Panvel Expressway, NH4 highway, and the Konkan Railway line.

The northern section integrates with Navi Mumbai metropolis while maintaining fifteen talukas and approximately 2,000 villages across eight administrative subdivisions.
