University of Rajasthan, Public university in Jaipur, India
The University of Rajasthan is a public institution in Jaipur, India, spread across a campus with numerous faculty buildings, administrative units, and laboratories. The establishment is organized into departments covering natural sciences, arts and humanities, commerce, and legal studies, each occupying separate buildings or wings within the grounds.
The institution was established in 1948 under the name University of Rajputana and formed the first major higher education establishment in the state following Indian independence. With its later renaming, it became closely associated with the regional designation Rajasthan and grew into a center for advanced learning in northwestern India.
The institution carries a name derived from the historical designation of the region, underlining the cultural identity of the state. During the academic day, students move between lecture halls and use the open spaces between buildings for conversation and group work.
Visitors should note that campus access is typically available during regular teaching hours, outside of which many buildings remain closed. Orientation within the grounds is aided by signage, though longer distances between individual faculties require walking.
The campus features areas with older tree stands that provide shade and serve as informal meeting points for students. Some of these trees were planted in the early years of the institution and have become recognizable landmarks within the grounds.
