Masani Amman, Hindu temple in Anaimalai, Tamil Nadu, India.
Masani Amman is a Hindu temple near the Anaimalai Hills in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The sanctuary houses a roughly 15-foot long reclining statue of the goddess, surrounded by pillared halls and an open courtyard.
The site began as a memorial for a woman executed by King Nannuran for eating a mango from his forbidden tree. Over time, it grew into a temple where locals worship the goddess Masani Amman.
Women come here and receive a medicinal offering called Pachilam Marundu, which they use for health concerns. Many devotees also bring offerings and ask for help with various physical ailments.
The temple opens daily from 6:30 AM to noon and again from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Buses run regularly from Pollachi to the temple, taking about half an hour to reach it.
The goddess carries four different objects in her hands: a damaru drum wrapped with a snake, a fire bowl, a container of kumkuma powder, and a trident. These attributes are especially highlighted by priests during daily rituals.
