Monti

Monti is a neighborhood near the Roman Forum with narrow cobblestone streets and historic buildings. The district stretches between Via Nazionale and Via Cavour and houses traditional craft workshops along with boutiques.

The neighborhood emerged in the 14th century and developed as a residential area for lower-income residents near the Forum Romanum. Over the centuries, it transformed into an established district of central Rome.

The neighborhood is known for its numerous small craft workshops and independent boutiques that define its character. The narrow streets and traditional shops create a personal setting where local artisans still make and sell their products on-site today.

The district is accessible via three metro stations that offer quick access to major locations. The area is best explored on foot, since most streets are closed to cars and the distances are short.

The site holds Trajan's Markets, an example of a covered shopping complex from around 100 AD. These trading halls reveal how Romans created organized commercial spaces in that era.
