Konkuk University, Private university in Gwangjin District, Seoul, South Korea
Konkuk University is a private higher education institution in Gwangjin District, Seoul, with campuses in both the capital and Chungju that together serve around 30,000 students. The facilities include several academic colleges, research centers, and a central library holding over 1.1 million volumes for teaching and scholarship.
The institution began in 1931 as the Chosen School of Politics and received its current name in 1959, which in Korean symbolizes building the nation. Since then it has grown into a large private establishment with two campuses and many partnerships abroad.
Students participate in 70 different clubs, engage in international exchange programs with 645 partner institutions, and celebrate annual Foundation Day traditions.
The Seoul campus sits directly next to Konkuk University Station, making access by metro straightforward. The central library is open to visitors and offers quiet spaces for reading and working.
A lake called Ilgam covers roughly one ninth of the Seoul campus and is fed year-round by underground water. This body of water serves as a central meeting point and provides an open feel in the middle of the study grounds.
