The character emerged in 1952 as one of the first ten installations when Efteling opened its Fairytale Forest, designed by Anton Pieck and Peter Reijnders.

This character represents the Dutch folklore tradition of helpful forest gnomes, known as kabouters, who assist travelers in finding their paths through woodlands.

Visitors can find Wee Walter Messenger along the walking path through the Fairytale Forest, where the figure moves and tells stories throughout the day.

The red plume in Walter's hat serves as a central element to his story, determining his ability to guide lost travelers through the forest paths.
