Azad Kashmir

Azad Kashmir extends across 13,297 square kilometers of mountainous terrain between Pakistan and India, containing green valleys and snow-covered peaks.

The region became a self-governing territory under Pakistani administration following the partition of British India and subsequent warfare in 1947.

The population of Azad Kashmir maintains traditions that combine Kashmiri and Punjabi influences in music, architecture, clothing, and regional festivals.

Visitors require special permits to enter Azad Kashmir, and travel arrangements must be made through registered Pakistani tour operators.

The territory operates with its own elected government, complete with a president, prime minister, supreme court, and legislative assembly.
