Hofuf

Hofuf is an oasis town in the Eastern Province that spreads across fertile land with numerous palm groves, traditional markets, and limestone hills bordering the desert. The central areas feature narrow lanes, water channels, and vaulted structures that support the irrigation systems keeping this green region alive.

The town grew around a vital water source on desert trade routes and became a caravan stop connecting the Persian Gulf to inland regions over centuries. Fortified structures like Ibrahim Palace appeared in the 16th century, marking its importance as a defended settlement.

Craftspeople in the souq work with copper and textiles using methods passed down through generations, while date processing from nearby palm groves remains a visible part of daily work. These trades shape how locals and visitors experience the central market areas.

Most sites sit in the central district and are walkable, especially the market lanes and older neighborhoods. Good footwear and sun protection matter here, and visiting early morning or late afternoon helps you avoid the strongest heat.

The natural limestone caves of Jabal Al-Qarah maintain steady temperatures year-round in their passages, offering relief from the intense heat outside. Visitors often seek them out as a refreshing break from the extreme daytime conditions above ground.
