Karakoçan, Administrative district in Elazığ Province, Turkey
Karakoçan is an administrative district in Elazığ Province in eastern Turkey. The area combines flat plains with mountainous terrain and is divided into several municipalities.
The district was established in 1936 during Turkey's administrative reorganization. Its creation replaced the older settlement of Bağın in the Peri Su river region.
The district maintains 88 villages across its territory, with a population of 28,436 residents who participate in local governance through municipal structures.
