Casa González Gorrondona, Residential monument in Los Palos Grandes, Caracas, Venezuela.
Casa González Gorrondona is a residence in Los Palos Grandes featuring stacked volumes, deep balconies, and expansive windows. These large glass surfaces and openings frame views of the Caracas valley and surrounding mountains.
Richard Neutra designed this residence in 1965 for José Joaquín González Gorrondona, a prominent banker and lawyer. The project emerged during the expansion of Los Palos Grandes and reflects the modernist thinking of that era.
The building shows how modern design can work with nature through its location near El Ávila National Park. From different rooms, residents experience views toward the mountains, creating a sense of connection with the surroundings.
The property sits at the end of Third Avenue in Los Palos Grandes, at the base of the western hill of the Coastal Mountain Range. From this location, the mountainous areas nearby are easy to spot and provide clear landmarks for orientation.
The residence includes a swimming pool designed specifically to accommodate seaplanes landing on its surface. The landscaping by Eduardo Robles Piquer features vegetation adapted to the mountain environment.
