Marina Alta

Marina Alta is an administrative region in the province of Alicante, stretching from the Mediterranean coast inland toward the mountains of Valencia. The area encompasses about 33 municipalities, each with its own character and layout.

The region was shaped by Roman settlements in ancient times, later gaining new cultural influences through Moorish rule and occupation. You can see these historical layers in towns like Dénia and Xàbia, where old architectural styles from different eras are still visible.

The towns across this area host local festivals throughout the year, where traditional music, dancing, and regional food bring communities together. These celebrations reflect how people here value their local customs and pass them down through generations.

The region is well connected by the AP-7 highway and the TRAM light rail system running from Dénia into various towns. It works well to explore starting from the coast and gradually moving inland toward the mountain areas.

The area has an extensive coastline dotted with many certified beaches that are known for water sports and swimming. These beaches spread across different municipalities, offering visitors multiple spots for recreation and outdoor activities.
