Badrinath, Hindu pilgrimage town in Uttarakhand, India
Located at 3,300 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas, Badrinath stands along the Alaknanda River between the Nar and Narayana mountain ranges.
The temple underwent multiple reconstructions due to earthquakes and avalanches, and until World War I, the town contained only 20 dwellings for temple staff.
The Badrinath Temple, dedicated to Vishnu, maintains a tradition where the head priest comes exclusively from Kerala despite its northern India location.
The temple gates remain open for visitors from May to November, closing during winter months due to harsh Himalayan weather conditions.
The Tapt Kund thermal springs near the temple contain mineral-rich waters reaching temperatures of 55 degrees Celsius.
