Malakpet, Residential neighborhood in Hyderabad, India
Malakpet is a residential neighborhood in Hyderabad divided into Old Malakpet and New Malakpet sections with houses, shops, and local markets spread throughout. The area is a mix of residential streets and busy commercial zones that form the daily environment.
The area took its name from Malik Yaqoub, a servant of Golconda King Abdullah Qutb Shah, who built his residence and market here. The neighborhood grew from this early trading center over time.
The neighborhood houses several religious sites and schools where residents of different backgrounds gather for local celebrations and community activities. These spaces shape the everyday rhythm and show how various communities live side by side.
The Malakpet metro station connects the area to central Hyderabad, with train and bus services also available throughout the neighborhood. Early mornings and late afternoons are good times to visit when the local markets are most active.
The Hyderabad Race Club relocated to this area in 1886 and settled near Asaf Jah VI's palace. This made the neighborhood a center for horse racing activities.
