Jinjue Mosque, Ming Dynasty mosque in Qinhuai District, China.
Jinjue Mosque is a rectangular compound from the Ming Dynasty organized around four courtyards featuring traditional Chinese architectural elements. The main prayer hall and three-entry gate with imperial inscriptions form the central features of this layout.
Emperor Hongwu commissioned the construction of this mosque in 1388 as an important site for Nanjing's Muslim community. Admiral Zheng He oversaw its reconstruction after a fire destroyed parts of it in 1430.
The mosque serves as a gathering place for Nanjing's Muslim community during prayers and religious celebrations. Visitors can observe how Islamic practices blend with the surrounding Chinese architectural traditions.
The mosque is located on Shengzhou Road and is easily accessible from the nearby Sanshanjie Station. Visitors should check in advance whether the site is open for touring, as access may sometimes be restricted.
The Ming Dynasty wall surrounding the compound stands noticeably taller than most other religious structures in Nanjing. This imposing barrier reflects the special status this site held within the city.
