The Former Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank stands at 145 Jiankang Road, at the northeast corner of its junction with Taiping South Road. The reinforced-concrete building was originally three storeys, with parts rising to five, and a fourth storey was added in the late 1980s or early 1990s. Its early modernist style places the entrance hall at the street corner.

The Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank opened an office in Xiaguan, Nanjing, in 1917 and established its Nanjing branch in July 1921. In April 1933 the branch moved to this building at 145 Jiankang Road, adding savings, trust and warehouse business. It relocated inland from November 1937 to December 1945 because of the war and closed in October 1952.

The bank's name, Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank, reflects its dual focus on commerce and savings when it opened its Nanjing branch in July 1921. At this site from April 1933, it also ran trust and warehouse services, and the corner entrance on Jiankang Road served customers at the junction with Taiping South Road. Since 1952 the building has housed banking offices, now the City South Branch of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

The building stands at No. 145 Jiankang Road, on the northeast corner of its junction with Taiping South Road in the Qinhuai District. The entrance hall is set at the street corner, and the upper floors added in the late 1980s or early 1990s sit above the original three-storey block.
