China Gate Castle Park

China Gate Castle Park stretches along the Qinhai River with shaded tree-lined paths, open lawns, and paved walkways. The space sits directly beside ancient city walls and the imposing Zhonghua Gate, a massive stone structure from the Ming era.

Zhonghua Gate was built during the Ming Dynasty as a key defensive structure protecting Nanjing from invaders and external threats. The park later developed around this fortification, combining the old military architecture with modern green space for residents.

Locals use the park daily for tai chi, walks, and social gatherings with neighbors and friends. The atmosphere shifts throughout the day, with older residents exercising in the morning and families strolling in the evening.

The park has multiple entry points, with the main entrance near Changgan Bridge, easily accessible on foot from nearby streets. Most pathways are flat and well-maintained, making it comfortable to walk around for visitors of all abilities.

The park includes walkable sections of original Ming-era stone walls and ramparts that reveal details of how defenders protected the city centuries ago. You can actually walk along these ancient defensive structures while surrounded by modern landscaping and river views.
