Great Temple of Abu Simbel

The temple contains three consecutive halls extending 185 feet into a sandstone cliff, featuring massive stone columns and detailed wall carvings throughout its interior.

King Ramesses II ordered the construction of this monumental temple around 1264 BC to establish Egyptian dominance over the Nubian region near the southern border.

The temple sanctuary holds carved figures of four deities: Amun Ra, Ra Horakhty, Ptah, and a deified Ramesses II, reflecting ancient Egyptian religious practices.

Visitors can explore the temple daily from 6 AM to 5 PM, with entrance fees of 750 Egyptian pounds for international adults and 30 for Egyptian nationals.

The temple's precise architectural design allows sunlight to penetrate the main hall and illuminate the inner sanctuary statues only on February 22 and October 22.
