Pyramid of Teti

The Pyramid of Teti measures 78.5 meters at its base and reaches 52.5 meters in height, featuring a core structure built with local stone and limestone dressing.

Constructed around 2345-2323 BC as the burial place for Teti, the first ruler of Egypt's Sixth Dynasty, this pyramid marked significant changes in architectural practices.

The pyramid walls contain ancient religious inscriptions known as Pyramid Texts, making it the second structure to incorporate these essential funerary writings.

The underground chambers remain in good condition despite the deteriorated exterior, allowing visitors to explore the corridors and burial chamber containing an unfinished sarcophagus.

Excavations revealed a plaster death mask mold showing a man with closed eyes and partially opened mouth, providing a rare potential portrait of King Teti.
