Coll de la Marrana, Mountain saddle in Eastern Pyrenees, Spain.
Coll de la Marrana is a mountain saddle in the Eastern Pyrenees located at approximately 2,530 meters between Bastiments peak and Gra de Fajol. It forms a natural boundary between the Ter and Freser river valleys.
This mountain passage has served for centuries as a traditional crossing point for shepherds and merchants traveling between Queralbs and Setcases. The route demonstrates how closely the highland communities were connected to one another.
The saddle hosts local mountain gatherings where nearby communities come together to celebrate their connection to these peaks. These meetings reflect how the mountains shape the identity of the surrounding villages.
Hikers can reach the saddle via a marked trail from Ulldeter refuge, with walking time of around 45 minutes. The path is most easily walked during summer months, though conditions can change significantly at other times of year.
Both the Ter and Freser rivers originate at this location, then flow in opposite directions from this natural meeting point. This hydrological junction is rarely noted but makes the place a special geographical crossroads.
