Mahodand Lake, Mountain lake in Swat District, Pakistan
Mahodand Lake sits in the upper Usho Valley in the Hindu Kush mountains at about 2,865 meters elevation. Pine forests line the shoreline of this alpine body of water set high in the mountains.
A former ruler of Swat State introduced brown and rainbow trout to the lake, creating a legacy of sport fishing that continues today. This introduction of foreign fish species altered the lake permanently.

The lake is reachable only in summer months by four-wheel drive vehicles via an unpaved road from Kalam, a journey of about 40 kilometers. Expect challenging road conditions and plan accordingly.
The entire lake surface freezes solid during winter, while summer meadows around it fill with alpine flowers like geum and blue poppy. This seasonal shift makes the place feel like two entirely different worlds.
