The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum is a science facility in Pudong New Area spanning 98,000 square meters with about 65,500 square meters of exhibition space. It features 13 permanent exhibitions covering nature, life, and technology across its halls.
The facility opened on 18 December 2001 as a major scientific center in Shanghai. Soon after its opening, it became a venue for significant international gatherings.
The spiral-shaped building with its central glass sphere creates a visual connection between the outside and the exhibitions inside. This design choice helps visitors understand the relationship between scientific progress and everyday human experience.
The facility houses four specialized cinemas including IMAX 3D and dome projection systems operating within the complex. Visitors should allow plenty of time to explore both the exhibitions and watch at least one film.
Four cinema halls combine to form Asia's largest science-focused cinema complex, screening specialized films. This collection of film formats is not found elsewhere in the region.
