La Tanière du Dragon, Dragon attraction in Disneyland Paris, France
La Tanière du Dragon is a walk-through cavern beneath Sleeping Beauty Castle where a colossal 27-meter animatronic dragon rests in a dark, rocky setting. The space features narrow, winding passages with moist stone walls and atmospheric lighting that recreates the experience of entering an actual dragon's lair.
The attraction was designed by Imagineer Terri Hardin and opened on April 12, 1992, when Euro Disneyland Park first welcomed guests. The animatronic figure was the largest of its kind upon opening and represented a significant achievement in theme park animation at that time.
The dragon's lair connects visitors to European fantasy stories and folklore found throughout Fantasyland at Disneyland Paris. The setting with aged stonework and dim lighting creates a mysterious mood that echoes medieval castle chambers.
Access is through an entrance at the base of Sleeping Beauty Castle, and the passages are narrow and dark. Visitors should expect uneven floors and damp conditions, and can visit during regular daytime park hours when the attraction is open.
The dragon responds to visitor presence by moving its head, releasing smoke, and producing growling sounds from within the rocky chamber. These responses were originally designed to startle guests as they passed through the cavern, creating a moment of playful fright.
