Barbarossa Lounge, Roof terrace lounge in People's Square Park, Shanghai, China.
Barbarossa Lounge occupies a standalone building constructed over a pond within People's Square Park, featuring Moroccan-inspired design elements, outdoor terrace seating, and panoramic views of the surrounding greenery and city landscape.
Established in 2005, Barbarossa Lounge became an iconic fixture of Shanghai nightlife, drawing both locals and international visitors to its unique setting that reflects historical Middle Eastern and North African trade route influences.
The venue offers an authentic cultural experience through its Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine, themed DJ nights featuring regional music, and traditional dance performances that bridge heritage traditions with contemporary urban entertainment.
The lounge operates daily from 5:00 PM to 1:00 AM, is accessible via public transportation near People's Square, and recommends reservations for weekend visits and special occasions to ensure seating availability.
Following its 2018 closure, Barbarossa reopened with a modified layout using exclusively the third-floor Arabian-style space, now sharing the building with the Sri Lankan restaurant Ministry of Crab on the ground floor.

Shanghai features several high-rise bars and restaurants among its numerous skyscrapers, offering views of the city from elevated vantage points. These venues are mainly located on the top floors of international hotels or buildings in the financial district, providing striking perspectives on the Huangpu River, the Bund, and the towers of Pudong. Our selection includes diverse locations such as Bar Rouge facing the historic Bund, Flair at Ritz Carlton overlooking the main avenues, or La Terrazza at Bulgari Hotel Shanghai serving Italian cuisine. Other options include Captain's Hostel in a century-old building, the Japanese restaurant Ruiku, or The Fellas in the old French Concession. These places serve cocktails, wines, and cooked dishes while offering open views of different parts of the Chinese metropolis.
