Morropón Province

Morropón is an administrative province in northern Piura that spans a wide area divided by the Piura River. The land contains mountain ranges and tropical forests that shape the overall landscape.

The province was created on January 31, 1936, under President Oscar R. Benavides, and was divided into ten districts from the beginning. This administrative structure formed the foundation for how the territory is organized today.

The Chulucanas district shows traditional black and white ceramics made using techniques passed down over many generations of local craftspeople. You can see artisans working with clay in their workshops throughout the area, creating pieces that reflect the region's identity.

Temperatures vary across the province depending on elevation, ranging from cool mountain areas to warm lowlands with tropical conditions. Visitors should pack clothing suitable for different climates when exploring both higher and lower regions.

Natural medicinal lagoons sit in the highlands near Chalaco at Cerro Negro and offer observation points across the landscape. These remote spots are often overlooked by visitors despite providing remarkable views of the surrounding terrain.
