Fuente del Puma, Fountain and work of art in Reserva Natural Salus, Uruguay
Fuente del Puma is an art installation made of stone in Reserva Natural Salus that integrates water features with the surrounding landscape. The structure was designed to work with the existing natural features of the Lavalleja region rather than against them.
The fountain was created as part of Compañía Salus's development of recreational areas in the Lavalleja region. The project came about to create nature-oriented spaces that would preserve the ecological value of the protected territory.
The fountain takes its name from the puma, an animal that holds meaning in local memory and represents the connection to the region's wild nature. Visitors sense this symbolic link when they encounter the artwork set within the surrounding landscape.
The site is easily accessible from Highway Route 8, where parking areas and marked trails lead to the fountain. The paths are well-signposted and accommodate visitors with different mobility needs.
The installation uses natural water sources and geological features of the site, allowing the fountain to flow without external energy input. This quality makes it an example of art creation that fully integrates into its natural surroundings.
