Puente Nacional, Mountain municipality in Santander Department, Colombia
Puente Nacional stretches across 315 square kilometers in the Suárez River Valley, maintaining an elevation of 1,621 meters above sea level.
The settlement changed its name from Puente Real de Vélez to Puente Nacional in 1781 following the significant Comunero Rebellions against Spanish rule.
Four Muisca tribes, including Semisos, Irobaes, and Popobas, established the initial foundations of the region's agricultural and commercial practices.
The municipal administration operates from Carrera 6 Number 4-103, coordinating services for more than 12,000 residents across the territory.
Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada encountered the first potato crops of his expedition in this region during his 1537 search for El Dorado.
