Iglesia de las Nieves

The Iglesia de las Nieves is a church building in central Tunja featuring impressive colonial-period interior decoration. The main altar displays carved wooden pieces covered in gold along with significant sculptures and paintings from the 17th century.

The church was founded in 1572 and was initially dedicated to Saint Peter before later being rededicated to Our Lady of the Snow. This change in dedication reflects the religious priorities of the community over time.

The interior contains a collection of Spanish colonial artistic pieces including gilded wooden candlesticks, silver lecterns, and a baptismal font with historical details. These well-preserved items form a rare example of craftsmanship traditions from that period.
