Provincia de Vélez is an administrative province located in the southern region of Santander Department, encompassing 19 municipalities spread across varied terrain. The landscape includes both mountainous highlands and plains of the Magdalena Valley spread throughout the territory.
Provincia de Vélez was founded in 1832 through the union of three cantons: Chiquinquirá, Vélez, and Moniquirá. In 1886, it became formally integrated into Santander Department, where it remains administratively rooted.
The Guabina and Tiple Festival in Vélez municipality happens each August, bringing together musicians and dancers who perform traditional Colombian Andean music. This celebration reflects the region's strong musical identity and its connection to local instruments and singing traditions.
