Sugamuxi Province

Sugamuxi Province is an administrative region in Boyacá with 13 municipalities, where Sogamoso serves as the main administrative center. The area spans different elevations, connecting valleys with highland zones.

The name comes from the last iraca of the Muisca people and means 'Dwelling of the Sun' in the Chibchan language. The area was long a center of this early civilization in the Colombian mountains.

The municipalities show their Muisca roots through local festivals and crafts that visitors can see in markets and village squares today. This heritage shapes how people here celebrate their seasons and gather together.

The province is reached through a main highway that connects Sogamoso with other Colombian cities. The nearest major airport is located in the provincial capital.

The different elevations support different crops, showing how people have adapted their farming to the mountain terrain. Potatoes, corn, and fruits grow at different levels depending on local climate and soil.
