Moral Reforma, Maya archaeological site in Balancán, Mexico.
Moral Reforma is a Maya archaeological site near Balancán with structures spread across a large riverside area. The grounds feature pyramid structures, earthen mounds, and stone platforms arranged in clusters.
The site developed as a local power center during the Maya classical period and was home to ruling families. The settlement ended, like many Maya places, when this era came to a close.
The site displays stone monuments such as stelae and altars left by ancient people and still visible today. These objects provide insight into the artistic skills and religious beliefs of that time.
The northern pyramid complex is relatively easy to climb and offers an overview of the site from above. The southern area is less developed and requires more effort to navigate through the mounds.
A particularly large double pyramid structure towers notably higher than all other buildings at the site. This distinctive construction was only uncovered and documented through systematic excavation work a few decades ago.
