ZooTampa, 63-acre zoological park in Tampa, United States
ZooTampa is a zoological park in Tampa, Florida, covering roughly 25 hectares (63 acres) and home to more than 1,300 animals. The grounds are divided into themed areas such as the Asian gardens, a Florida wildlife center, a primate section and an African safari zone.
The facility began as a small animal display at the University of Tampa in the 1930s. In 1957 it moved to its current site and grew into a larger zoological park.
The park works on projects that protect animals at risk of disappearing and shows visitors why these efforts matter. In the enclosures you see creatures from Florida, Africa and Asia, making the commitment to conservation something you can observe directly.
The park opens daily, typically from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, though hours may shift slightly with the season. Arriving early in the day is often the best time to see animals moving around and to avoid busier pathways.
The grounds include a hospital for manatees that takes in injured or orphaned animals and provides medical treatment. Visitors can look through large windows into the treatment rooms and watch care for these rare marine mammals up close.
