Tigris, Steel roller coaster in Busch Gardens Tampa, United States
Tigris is a steel roller coaster at Busch Gardens Tampa that sends riders to a height of 150 feet (46 meters) and propels them through several inversions at speeds reaching 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour). The train consists of three cars holding a total of 18 seats, secured with both lap belts and shoulder harnesses.
The ride opened in April 2019, replacing the Tanganyika Tidal Wave water attraction that stood in the Stanleyville section until 2016. Its construction followed the park's decision to introduce a more modern ride in this part of the grounds.
The name refers to the Mesopotamian river, and the design connects this theme to the Bengal tiger featured in the park's branding. Visitors notice the orange and black color scheme echoing tiger markings as they move through the queue area.
The queue can grow longer on weekends and holiday periods, so arriving early in the day works well. Access is through the Stanleyville section, close to the bridge leading to other parts of the park.
The launch system uses a linear motor that accelerates the train forward and backward, sending riders through the same section of track three times. This technique creates a different ride experience compared to traditional roller coasters with only one direction.
