Cheetah Hunt, Steel roller coaster in Busch Gardens Tampa, Florida.
Cheetah Hunt is a steel roller coaster in Busch Gardens Tampa, Florida, that guides visitors across 1350 meters through different landscape zones. Three linear magnetic motors accelerate the cars in succession and reach a top speed of 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour).
The roller coaster opened in 2011 after seven years of planning and replaced an older area in the park. It was built in partnership with German manufacturer Intamin and introduced a new launch system at the time.
The attraction takes its name from the fastest land animal and uses north African motifs in the design of queue areas and track sections. Bronze cat sculptures stand along the path and mark the transition between different segments of the ride.
The queue winds through artificial rocks and caves, with waiting time varying depending on the time of day. Visitors should note that the ride may close temporarily during rain or strong wind.
Part of the track runs over an artificial canyon and comes within a few meters of enclosures housing live cheetahs. The final acceleration phase occurs not at the start but near the end of the ride and surprises many guests.
