Rhino Rally, Safari adventure ride at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, US
Rhino Rally was a safari-style ride at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay in Florida, where visitors traveled in open-sided vehicles through sections of the park designed to resemble African terrain. The route passed through animal habitats and staged adventure scenes, with the vehicles moving through different zones at ground level.
The attraction opened in 2001 and ran for 13 years before closing in 2014. Over that time it was adjusted more than once to keep pace with the way the rest of the park was developing around it.
The ride was built around a fictional safari guide named Scooter Roberts, whose storyline gave the journey a narrative structure. Visitors followed along as his adventure unfolded around them, making the experience feel more like a story than a simple tour.
The ride was accessible to most age groups and took place in open-sided vehicles, so visitors were directly exposed to sun, wind, or rain depending on the weather. Light clothing and sun protection were a good idea for anyone planning to take part.
The vehicles used for the ride were custom built to handle several different types of terrain within the park, which made the engineering more demanding than for most comparable rides. This gave the experience a different feel from a standard rail or water ride, as the route crossed over changing ground rather than a fixed track.
