World of Motion, Educational transportation ride at Future World, EPCOT Center, United States
World of Motion was a round pavilion at the Future World section of EPCOT Center that presented the history of transportation across two levels. Inside, 22 rooms with moving figures and sets extended through the building, and visitors rode through them in small vehicles.
The attraction opened on October 1, 1982, with financial support from General Motors and was among the first rides at the park. Fourteen years later, in 1996, it was shut down to make room for a new ride with faster vehicles.
The vehicles passed through scenes that recreated different eras of movement, from cavemen to space exploration. Sound effects and dialogue between mechanical figures playfully explained technical breakthroughs along the way.
The entire ride lasted about 14 minutes and passed through covered rooms with controlled lighting. After stepping out, visitors could explore prototypes and exhibits at the TransCenter before leaving the building.
The TransCenter featured a robot show where a mechanical seal and a robot talked humorously about car production. Some of the prototypes on display were vehicles never before shown to the public.
