Mission to Mars, Space simulation attraction in Magic Kingdom, Florida, US
Mission to Mars was a space flight simulation in Magic Kingdom, Florida, that placed visitors aboard a voyage to the red planet. The show took place in a round room with screens on the ceiling and floor displaying views from the simulated spacecraft.
The attraction opened in 1955 as Rocket to the Moon and was renamed Flight to the Moon in 1967. It transformed into Mission to Mars in 1975 and remained under that name until closure.
The attraction incorporated NASA technology and mission control elements, reflecting American space exploration aspirations during the Space Race period.
The experience began in a pre-show area designed as a control center before guests moved into the main theater space. The circular room allowed all visitors to view the projected images at the same time.
Two narrators guided the experience: Third Officer Collins voiced by Peter Renaday and Mr Johnson voiced by George Walsh. Walsh had previously appeared as a supporting actor in the television series Gunsmoke.
